Jeanne Pâris

Jeanne Pâris is a violinist and singer trained in classical singing at HEMU Lausanne after earning a degree in English Literature from the University of Lille 3. Their research focuses on the voice as a vessel for cultural, linguistic, and musical heritage, as well as a space for social and gender transitions—approaching these themes through a blend of acoustics, sociology, and musical practice. Drawing inspiration from a reinterpretation of their classical studies, as well as the traditional songs of both their blood family (Franco-Polish) and their chosen family (within the queer community), they work to create new traditions.
With their duo, Baix, they offer a queer re-reading of the classical repertoire from the Middle Ages to the present day for voice and electric bass, which has been presented at events like the Festival de la Cité. They also broaden their practice to include improvisation, performance, and poetic writing. In parallel, Jeanne is developing Sorelle with Compagnie 642, a project aimed at shedding light on Renaissance composers Barbara Strozzi and Maddalena Casulena, as well as the painter Artemisia Gentileschi.
